The Joliet Symphony Orchestra’s season grand finale, “Scintillating,” will feature St. Louis-based flautist Paola Cubillos performing Carl Reinecke’s virtuosic and tuneful Flute Concerto in D Major. Carl Maria von Weber’s brooding Der Freischutz Overture and Antonin Dvorak’s rapturously beautiful Symphony No. 6 in D Major help conclude our 21st Season. What an incredible conclusion to a spectacular season of soloists and music!

At this February performance, the Joliet Symphony Orchestra was joined by special guests including mezzo-soprano Jennifer Barrett, performing Aaron Copland’s Eight Poems of Emily Dickinson, and the JSO’s own Christi Allison (English horn) and Alyson Bauman (trumpet) as soloists on Copland’s Quiet City. Grace Pettis epitomizes the term singer/songwriter. As a singer, her voice is both powerful and beautiful, and she uses it like a fine arts painter to color and craft her songs. She has collaborated with acclaimed artists Indigo Girls and Ruthie Foster and is the winner of many of the nation鈥檚 most prestigious songwriting contests, including NPR鈥檚 Mountain Stage New Song Contest, and has received grants from the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation, where she is a continuing mentor, and the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation.
Natalie Price is a singer and songwriter, primarily known for her indie-folk-Americana sound, characterized by her soulful vocals, sincere lyrics and unique blend of genres. Formerly based in Austin, Texas, now Nashville, she has been creating music for a decade. In 2023, Price was the Grand Prize winner in the prestigious NewSong Music Performance and Songwriting Competition, one of North America鈥檚 premier songwriter showcases.

Their latest self-titled release is out now, and they鈥檙e currently at work on their third studio album.

Andrew will join the JSO in a performance of Max Bruch’s gorgeous Violin Concerto No. 1 in g minor. We will warmly embrace the concerto with Ludwig van Beethoven鈥檚 Namensfeier Overture 鈥 which has a University of St. 蘑菇影视 connection 鈥 and George Whitefield Chadwick鈥檚 beautiful, but too infrequently performed, Symphony No. 2 in B-flat Major. 狈补蝉丑惫颈濒濒别鈥檚 Katie Pederson, an award-winning songwriter and performer from Ann Arbor, Michigan, is a winner of the International Songwriting Competition and a 2024 finalist in the Independent Music Awards. She joins Genevi猫ve Racette, a highly acclaimed folk-pop musician from Montreal, Qu茅bec, who has captured the hearts of listeners with her gentle yet compelling emotional resonance, and Abbie Thomas, an award-winning singer-songwriter from Goshen, Indiana.

Returning to the University of St. 蘑菇影视 this fall is Aoife Scott, an award-winning folk singer and songwriter based in Dublin, Ireland. Born into the legendary Black Family, Aoife, is an established artist in her own right, and at the very pinnacle of Ireland’s traditional and folk music scene. Aoife is joined by her longtime collaborator Andy Meaney for this night of music from the Emerald Isle.

French horn soloist Emily Whittaker and the JSO explored music that revitalizes us in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart鈥檚 challenging 鈥淐oncerto No. 3 in E-flat Major.鈥 Also on the program was the stirring 鈥淔roissart Overture鈥 by Sir Edward Elgar and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F Major, opus 68 “Pastoral.” This program delighted and surprised as the JSO and audiences journeyed together through some familiar and unfamiliar musical landscapes

Aoife Scott and Andy Meaney

USF was thrilled to welcome Aoife Scott and Andy Meaney, multiple award-winning musicians from Dublin, for the first Music at Moser show in the 2023-24 school year. Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Aoife Scott brought soulful vocals and evocative storytelling to the University of St. 蘑菇影视. Her music, exploring themes of love and resilience, has captured the hearts of audiences around the world, offering a unique blend of folk, traditional and contemporary styles. Scott’s recognitions include Celtic Female Vocalist of the Year and Female Vocal Album of the Year (2021) and Irish Folk Song of the Year (2017). Scott and Meaney were joined by local musicians who opened the show, then joined on stage for the encore.
