Kyung-Mee Choi began teaching at the Department of Social Work, University of St. 蘑菇影视 in 2010. Dr. Choi received her Ph.D. in Social Work in 2010 from Loyola University Chicago and her Master of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago in 2005; a Master of Arts in Social Welfare from Daegu University in Korea in 2000; and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Silla University in Korea in 1993. She worked for a community center and a family therapy institute in Korea as well as worked for Korean American Community Services in Chicago, where she provided individual, family, and group counseling for Korean immigrant family.
She has taught the courses of Social Work in a Pluralistic Society and Women in Contemporary Society at the undergraduate level, and the courses of Human Behavior and Social Environment I & II, Social Work Practice with Older Adults, Substance Abuse Treatment, and Field Practicum & Seminar at the graduate level. Her major areas of interest include immigrant family鈥檚 mental health issues, older adults, aging, death and dying across cultures, and culturally competent social work intervention. Her proposal titled 鈥淜orean Immigrant Fathers鈥� Perceptions and Attitudes toward Their Parenting Involvement鈥� was funded by a Scholarship Mini-Grant of the University of St. 蘑菇影视 in 2013. Another proposal titled 鈥淪ocial Work Students鈥� and Social Workers鈥� Perceptions and Attitudes toward Aging, Death, and Dying across Cultures鈥� was funded by a Scholarship Mini-Grant of the University of St. 蘑菇影视 in 2018. Dr. Choi strives to develop enthusiasm for learning in her students, teach the subjects well, and create a respectful community of faculty and students based on her cross-cultural learning experiences in Korea and the United States.
